Session Information

  • Clothing: Keep it simple. Solid matching colors are by far the best for most portraits. Avoid large or bold patterns and bright colors - especially in group portraits- they draw attention away from the face. Long sleeves are usually preferred since upper arms tend to photograph wider than they are in real life. We want timeless portraits with attention drawn to the expressions and relationships of the family members, not the clothing styles of the era. Dark clothing usually look best with dark backgrounds as do light clothing with light backgrounds. Beach and outdoor portraits look nice with white or black tops and denim or kaki bottoms. You may not feel comfortable walking to a location with all matching clothes, but the photo will look much better.
  • For a black and white Portrait, if you want to wear nail polish, French manicures are best. Wear simple, long-sleeved, black or navy turtlenecks or shirts as well as black or navy pants or a skirt.
  • As you will appear to be wearing slightly less make-up in the photograph than you actually are, please wear your usual make-up plus a slight extra touch of blush, very well blended. Extra mascara is also recommended. Powder will also help reduce glare. Bring all of your make-up with you for repairs as needed. Remember to keep jewelry simple. Styling your hair at home is the most convenient, but feel free to bring what's needed for touch-ups.
  • Glasses can cause problems with glare and magnifications of parts of the face, if possible ask your optometrist to borrow a similar frame with no lenses.
  • Please resist the urge to tell your child to smile or insist they be on their best behavior as this often backfires. Simply say "we are having our portrait taken and it will be fun." Telling a child to smile usually results in a grimacing, fake looking smile. Give the photographer a chance to get a REAL smile.
  • Sessions are by appointment only. Please call or email to make an appointment and discuss the type of portrait you would like to have. This can be on location using natural light or in the Studio. Outdoor sessions work best the hour before sunset or the hour after sunrise. This provides a nice, flattering, warm, soft light.
  • The session fee is $150 of which $75 can be applied toward printing fees:
    4x6-$10   5x7-$20   8x10-$30   11x14-$45
    16x20- $90 (mounted)
    20x24-$115 (mounted)
    20x30-$150 (mounted)
Prices include touchups in photoshop. (moving faces/people will be extra unless multiple copies of same picture are purchased.)
